About Jackson 2000

JACKSON 2000 is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens for the purpose of affecting the social, political, and economic climate of the city of Jackson, Mississippi.

The Articles of Incorporation were executed on May 24, 1989, by Russell C. Davis, former Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dr. Walter Washington, President of Alcorn State University.

Statement of Purpose

Jackson 2000 exists:

To positively affect the social, political and economic climate of the City of Jackson, Mississippi.

To investigate and discuss political and public issues affecting the well-being of the citizens of Jackson, Mississippi.

To keep as its primary interest, issues relating to the following:

• Improving race relations;
• Improving economic opportunities and conditions;
• Improving the delivery of public services from all governmental agencies;
• Encouraging the most capable individuals of all races to seek and hold public office;
• Supporting and encouraging the development of objective leadership;
• Supporting equity, fair play and frank discussion on all issues of public concern;
• Researching and discussing serious social, political, and economic issues affecting the future of the City of Jackson, Mississippi; and,
• Working individually and collectively to further the ideas and opinions of the members of Jackson 2000.

• Promote tolerance of issues related to gender, religion, faith, and ethnicity
